| Synopsis: |
John's second film, 'Agraharathil Kazhuthai' made in Tamil, is a hard hitting satire on the brahminical bigotry and superstition, where a donkey becomes the central character.
Prof. Narayana Swamy compassionately adopts a newborn donkey when its mother is killed by an enraged crowd. He tries to take care of it himself in the town he lives in, but social pressures force him to take it to his home village and hire a blind girl to look after it. The entire village turns against the donkey and its caretaker. When the girl's stillborn baby is deposited outside a temple, the donkey is blamed and is killed. Subsequent miraculous incidents made the people to worship the donkey and give a ritual funeral by burning it. |
