Veteran actor Thilakan has been suspended from the actors’ association, AMMA. He had expressed his inability to appear before the disciplinary committee of AMMA on March 1, as he was supposed to face the camera for a film being made in English. But curiously enough the makers of the film too are planning to start the shooting without Thilakan.
AMMA has now given a week’s time to tender apology but the actor has reportedly stated that he feels sorry for being part of the group! The issue had blown out of proportion after writer Sukumar Azheekode came in defense of Thilakan and started a slanging match with Mohanlal and Innocent.
The whole controversy has taken a rather serious turn and not many have real clues as to where it is heading. Azheekode was pacified by Mammootty’s statements, but Mohanlal was irked by the writer’s remarks on certain personal issues and also on the comments regarding his age. Innocent too has retorted to some of Azheekode’s remarks.
The whole issue started when Thilakan protested against his ouster from the Mohanlal-Dileep-Suresh Gopi starrer Christian Brothers. Thilakan had accused the superstars in Malayalam industry of working against him. It is quite sad that the industry, which is going through its worst ever period due to constant failures of films at the box office, is hogging the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late!
