Dir: Rosshan Andrrews
Cast: Mohanlal, Shriya Saran
BASIC FACTS: Casanovva was launched at a mega event in Bangalore, almost five years back. The shooting got postponed due to various reasons. There have been several shooting schedules and the cast have been changed a couple of time. Finally, when the film was ready to reach the theatres, it became the costliest film ever made in Malayalam. It had 1000 shows on the film’s first day.
THE PLOT: Casanova (Mohanlal) is an international flower trader and like his namesake, a big time philanderer as well. On his visit to Dubai, he comes across a news item which stated that a four member gang had stolen some precious articles from various places. He has a personal score to settle with the quartet. The Interpol is chasing the criminals but Casanova being the super hero, does it all himself.
THE REVIEW: Where was all the money spent? The cars, the firangi extras and the locations at the various corners of the world could have been costly. But the question is, whether it’s all worth with the kind of storyline that they had at hand.
Rosshan Andrrews disappointed big time with Casanovva. Scenarists Bobby-Sanjay, who surprised all with the script of Traffic last year, was not in their best of forms.
Mohanlal look old and terribly out of shape to play the role of the lady charmer. Everyone else had limited roles to play. Shriya Saran looked thoroughly disinterested in the hero, Lakshmi Rai and Roma was just pawns at the hands of Casanova and Riyas Khan played an Interpol cop who can’t find even the basic elements needed to prove his case.
In a line, this Casanovva lacks the charm.
