Dir: Kalavoor Ravikumar
Cast: Revathy, Vineeth, Lal, Shaheen, Indu Thampy
DID YOU KNOW? Father’s Day was originally called Sneham + Ishtam = Amma, to be made by a debutant director. But the shooting had to be stopped after the actors complained about the debutant director’s abilities. Kalavoor Ravikumar stepped in to do the honours later on. Oscar winner Resul Pookkutty’s presence in the films ensured some publicity for the project.
THE PLOT: Seethalakshmi (Revathy) is a college lecturer, much loved by her brother Gopan (Vineeth). Neenu (Indu Thampy), their niece, stays with Seetha. Lal plays an old college mate who comes and proposes to Seetha, one fine morning.
But things change after a young man named Joseph K Joseph (Shaheen) starts appearing before Seetha. Her life takes a sudden turn from then on.
THE REVIEW: Painstakingly predictable, too melodramatic and pretentious. Father’s Day can be defined so but still there is a simple story, which has been presented in a more serious way than it actually deserves.
Shaheen, who is playing the central character, has a face that is wooden. Revathy and the rest of the cast have done an okay job, at best. Pookkutty is there only for a scene, playing a cameo!
RATING: 1.5/5
