Legendary director Bharathan made Nidra in 1981. Three decades later, his son Siddharth Bharathan is remaking the film. The original had Shanthikrishna and Vijay Menon in the lead. The new version will have Siddharth himself and Rima Kallingal playing a husband and wife.
“I feel the story is still relevant and I have placed the characters during the current times. They live in Chalakudy and my character is finding it tough to accept the diktats of the society. When he can’t bear the pressures, he becomes insane, to the rest of the world. His wife supports him wholeheartedly,” says Siddharth.
Lucsam produces the film. Jishnu Raghavan, who started off his acting career with Siddharth in Kamal’s Nammal (2002), plays the elder brother. Sameer Thahir is the cinematographer and Jassie Gift is the music director.
