DID YOU KNOW? Mammootty plays a funny villager called Mike Peelippose in Loud Speaker. With him is the Asian College of Journalism chairman Sashi Kumar, who has earlier directed Kaya Taran. Gracy Singh, the heroine of Lagaan and Munnabhai MBBS play the female lead.
STORYLINE: Anand Menon (Sashi Kumar), an astrophysicist in the US, is back in his motherland with a kidney ailment. He has to go for a kidney transplant and the agent brings Mike (Mammootty), who starts living in Menon’s apartment. Mike soon becomes a nuisance for all with his loud voice and often annoying behavior, but soon everyone start realizing that he is a genuine human being.
REVIEW: Loud Speaker has a noble theme and nice premise. Mammootty is in full form as Mike Peelippose, a commoner who is in stark contrast in his nature when compared to the urbane, polished Menon. But they soon share an unlikely friendship. Sashi Kumar is perfect as Menon, who has lots to be worried about, including the painful memory of a childhood romance.
HIGHS: The novel subject and Mammootty
LOWS: A few clichéd scenes meant to evoke laughs
Verdict: 3 out of 5 (Good)
